Where Art Lives

by Starla J. King on November 10, 2011

The email that says “It’s Friday — the day we miss each other out loud.

The moment of self-discovery during a coaching call.

The wavy lines of gravel in the wake of a bulldozer’s busy rearrangements.

The music that stops you in your tracks and gently breaks your heart wide open.

The full moon protectively watching over a bustling city after the rest of us turn our lights out.

The sharing of breath in a lingering kiss.

The clack of the letters on the keyboard as thoughts become visible.

The earrings on the bookshelf unknowingly left as a whisper of last week’s guest.

The scent of fabric softener touching the dryer-warmed air.

The gasp for air after a laugh has hijacked your stress.

The paw-sized indentations telling of earlier feline travels across the bed.

In all of these things, the things that make up the museum of our everyday lives…

That’s where art lives.

Beautiful. I’m re-amazed everytime I read your words. Art is in everyday happenings. Thanks for reminding us to stop and appreciate it. Your words are art!

Ah, Mare… thank YOU for GETTING it! Yes, art is in everyday happenings… and the “everyday-ness” makes them even more artful, I think. XO!
