No matter what

“Under all circumstances we should continue… Just go on writing no matter what. ” ~Natalie Goldberg, from Wild Mind: Living the Writer’s Life

One of the most difficult things in a writer’s life is, ironically, getting around to writing.

We resist.  We de-prioritize.  We cower.  Even as we salivate to taste our newest words.

Why?

Because we know the power of writing.

writingWe know that the words we put on paper (or screen) today might expose that thing we’ve been avoiding, or carry us to a threshold we’re afraid to cross over, or give us an answer  to something that changes our day-to-day life as we know it.

Which is exactly why, under all circumstances, we must keep writing… no matter what.

When we start writing, we give voice to our Gremlins, our confusion, and shadowy back corners … but when we keep writing, the strength of those hairy sharp-clawed things fizzles and we finally give voice to the purely benevolent core of ourselves.

Scrawl your life’s junk across your journal pages, start a new blog, or make this your “year of the book,” talent be damned.  Just write and keep writing and give that all-too-often-hidden voice of yours a flashlight of words.

“There is no excuse.  If you want to write, write. This is your life.  You are responsible for it. You will not live forever.  Don’t wait.  Make the time now.” ~Natalie Goldberg.

And if you’re stuck, contact me to get this thing going.

The day’s not over yet …
