I want a world…

by Starla J. King on November 18, 2014

“And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and thought, This is the world I want to live in. The shared world. Not a single person in that gate— once the crying of confusion stopped— seemed apprehensive about any other person. They took the cookies.” ~ from Naomi Shahib Nye’s short story “Gate A-4” (Honeybee, Greenwillow Books, 2008)

I, too, want to live in the world that Naomi describes in Gate A-4  (<– read the story; you won’t regret it).

I want to live in a world where strangers share cookies in an airport, and “the others” quickly become “us,” and the positive carries more weight than the negative.

I want to live in a world where giving needs no reason, grace is a way of being, and humans allow god and God to co-exist.

I want to live in a world where the phrases “starving artist,” “woo woo,” and “touchy-feely” fade into oblivion as art embodies abundance, spirituality comes down to earth, and soft skills get top billing in the ranks of success.

I want to live in a world where babies are teachers, elders are embodied wisdom, and age isn’t even a number.

I want to live in a world where silence is golden, delight is deemed necessary, and time can’t be squandered, just lived.

I want to live in a world where fear forgets its own name in the presence of Love, and “gentle” is taught as a strength, and striving towards stress is no longer a virtue.

And today, right now, this very minute, what I want most is to simply know that others want to live in that world too.  Do you?
