Don’t Let Perfect…

by Starla J. King on March 14, 2013

“This is turning into a mighty list,” noted my colleague Crys Williams about my “writers thoughts on writing” book list on OutWrite Living’s Facebook page.  “…worthy of a page on your website somewhere, maybe?”

I responded that “I’ve had ‘resources page’ on my To Do list for like EVER… and this might just have me actually DO it for heavens sake.”

To which Crys tossed back,  “Do? It’s did! Copy –> Paste –> Bow to the round of applause 🙂 “

So I did, and it’s did (see here … although I’m still waiting for the round of applause).

That nudge from Crys blew my perfectionation (perfection procrastination) so far apart that I already had that webpage did by the time the pieces regrouped 30 minutes later.   I had futzed around for over a year on that page and never got it did.  Why?  Because I let perfect run the show.

Don’t let perfect make any project bigger than it really is.gitter-stare_crop

Don’t let perfect lure you in with the deadly message of “all or nothing.”

Don’t let perfect give your fears a place to hang out and eat Cheetos.

Don’t let perfect open your storage shed full of debilitating comparisons.

Don’t let perfect tease you, demean you, promise you salvation, or even offer you candy (we all know sugar’s not the answer.  although I usually wish it were).

Just listen to Crys and don’t let perfection get in the way… so you can make your To Do a To Did.
