Don’t just sit there…DO something!

by Starla J. King on November 2, 2010

The most frustrated people I know are not in action.  When we get stuck, we often try to think our way into action, but that just gets us even more stuck.”  — Lorin Beller Blake (founder & CEO of Big Fish Nation).

* THUNK *

(that’s the sound of those words hitting me *right here* <fist to chest>)

You know what I’m talking about, don’t you?

You’re not sure what action to take, so you… don’t.

Then you’re frustrated because you didn’t take action so you … still don’t.

Then the inaction starts really bugging you so freak out a little and go hide in a big ole ball of … even more inactive inaction.

Then you get brave enough to uncurl and peek out through one wary eye and try to THINK your way out of inaction.

And…..that doesn’t work either.

So what does??

ACTION.

Just stepping in front of your own stumbling blocks and DOING SOMETHING.  One step, any step into movement…  forward movement.

I think Lorin nailed it in her blog post today: “Do you think too much?”     4 hard-to-get-started yet simple-to-keep-going steps to ACTION:

  1. DECIDE to act
  2. DEFINE your goals
  3. DEFY your fears
  4. DO it

My paraphrase:  Tell fear where it can go.

START NOW.  Take a step. Move forward.  Ready… set….

GO!

You and Lorin are really talkin’ to me this week…I’m a thinker for sure. Your steps made it so clear for me to take action. Thanks for getting my rear in gear!

Kristen, I’m right there with you… thinking is great *in moderation* and when it takes over, yikes!

Let your brain rest for a bit. It will love you for it. So will your biz.
