A Different Kind of Thank You

by Starla J. King on March 23, 2011

As you may have figured, last week’s blog post was a result of my own No, thank you choice.

photo by Starla J. KingLast week, I said no to something big enough that the choice made me cry (more than once).  I said  no to the option of keeping our garden design/coaching/consulting skills as a paid service offering.   Although we had decided earlier to close Signature Gardenscapes (see Bittersweet), we were still going to offer a few garden-related services.

Then last week I realized .. bigtime, OMG, REALIZED… that my writing work is begging for my full attention.  That, to use the words of Nona Jordan,  “the important bits that I really want the energy for are slipping me by.”

So… last week, I said No.

Thank you  to the business that lured me out of my corporate comfort zone 5 years ago into the adventure of entrepreneurship.

Thank you to the business that showed me how to create a friendship between the dreamer me and the make-it-happen me…without alienating or de-valuing either one.

Thank you to the business that cultivated in me an eternal deep spiritual connection to nature…and the miracles that happen out there.

Thank you to the business that will forever fuel my writing and provide a tool for my truest heart’s work.

Thank you to the business that showed me that passion CAN be turned into viable bill-paying “work.”

photo by Starla J. KingThank you to the business that connected me to the Big Fish Nation, Lorin Beller Blake, and my biz/life coach, Nancy Duncan — total game changers in my life and career.  TOTAL game changers.

And thank you to the business that is so graciously sacrificing itself for the Greater Good of OutWrite Living.

Each of our lives is a series of these stepping stones — what gets YOUR thank you today??

Those difficult “No, thank yous” are always the ones that open the door to something way bigger, way brighter, and way more in line with authenticity, in my experience.

Yay, you for saying no to one thing and saying YES to those important bits.

Nona, YES! It’s the authenticity saturating those important bits that was asking me for attention. I am SO THERE!

Thanks for the unauthorized use of your words. 😉

And to you I say … congratulations! You created gardens of beauty and for those of us who were fortunate enough to be part of that journey with you, we remain thankful and honored that you gave us a piece of you in your garden, plant, and tree designs. I have not doubt that the future will be just as fruitful for you…go get ’em!

Well, Burke, you kinda started it all, so a big ole THANK YOU to you in here too! Thanks for letting your property be our “training ground” (how many shrubs can you fit into a 4×6 bed??).

Listening to my heart…all the clear and complicated parts of it…gets my thank you today as well as connecting from the heart with 15 Minutes Outside. Fundamentally, right now in this moment, that is all that really matters. Thank YOU for sharing the “No’s” and “Thank You’s” with all of us!
